Building hybrid learning capacity for maker shops world-wide: Igniting a community impact initiative
The pandemic has dramatically accelerated interest and demand for a practical and scalable maker approach to hybrid learning for workforce development. We can see this theme emerge throughout this year’s conference.

How can we embrace and amplify the large reservoir of local tool instruction workshop materials that already exist? Is it possible to ignite a large-scale collective impact initiative to scale up and build hybrid learning capacity for maker shops of all types worldwide? What would we call this thing? How can it be governed cooperatively and transparently to ensure the broadest reach and impact?

In this session we'll hear about four maker approaches to hybrid learning, both before the pandemic and as a result of it. And, we'll be asking how to amplify what local maker spaces are doing in the arena of hybrid learning, to large scale -- on an enterprise platform jointly owned as a producer co-op.

We've got a great line-up of speakers including education directors from several prominent maker spaces, Artisan's Asylum in Boston and Open Works in Baltmore. We'll also hear about a library based makerspace at the University of Victoria in British Columbia and their use of academically certified digital credentials for hybrid maker learning. And, we'll take a look at Soup Stone Media's prototype development of what we like to call microlearning for maker spaces.

We hope you'll mark your calendar, join in, participate and enjoy today's session. Welcome aboard!

Here's a link to the full agenda. Please download this in advance and print if possible. We'll go over the agenda during opening remarks.

Plan to come with your pencils and wits sharpened. Please bring your questions, ideas and comments for discussion.

We're mindful how Zoom can strain our concentration, this is hard. We scheduled for 90 minutes, because 50 minutes wouldn't have been quite enough. But, we will aim to wrap up a bit early, and we hope you'll leave happy and wanting more. Plus, we'll take a short break about 45 minutes in, and briefly enjoy some sweet contemporary world music before we dive back into the exciting world of hybrid learning for maker spaces.

Push Through Barriers and Launch Your Project
As makers, mentors, educators, and program managers, we've all seen people with really good ideas give up on them too quickly. There are a lot of reasons for this 'giving up' and we are going to dig deep. In this session we'll talk about the external and internal forces that lead people to quit. Then we'll identify stakeholders and brainstorm on solutions from all angles. For makers, founders, educators, program managers.

Summer Dreams 2021
Rethink a Traditional Process: Our stories connect audiences to our mission and drive simple solutions, with huge Impact.

Learn how our Concept is simple to design and implement
We discuss how our Process is unique, and how Workforce Development, and Apprenticeship Programs can accelerate your growth.
Using SROT we show how outcome exceeds input often by 3 times.

Each project is 3 months long and one (1) training professional works up to 40 hours per month, saving hiring costs of up to $2100.00 per person, our certification provides up to $3M in economic value from the professional employment to the local community.

At CityLab Professional

We start people on the path to self-sufficiency. When people have jobs, they have economic stability in their lives; this stability allows for healthy people and families. But we don’t stop there: we use our unique model to impact neighborhoods with the greatest need.

That’s why our Cisco Network Academy program begins 12 week's before release from county jail or foster care.

Our foundation is based on the emerging Maker Industry, and through CityLab Professional we encourage related classes at local MakerLabs and advocate through national organizations to scale our empowerment plan.

In the end, with your support we help people find meaningful, sustaining careers, we train them in job skills, give them real work experience, and support them while they begin their careers by helping with job placement and life-planning.

We not only provide the support people need to succeed, but also the space to define what success means to them.

Affordable Housing helps transform our community into safer societys, we offer custom tiny home creations to our neighbors at significantly reduced prices, advocate for the issues impacting Social Justice, using Makerspaces for trainings, workshops, and more.
