Contact Me

A former life in rural economic development, introduced me to small business owners having difficulties finding young workers with trade skills. They would ask:" What the heck became of shop class?" Sound familiar?

Here's a few things I’ve managed to pull off over the years. My mid-80’s university thesis project was published as "Cooperative Distance Learning" in Computer Mediated Environmental Education, Monograph of North American Environmental Education Association, ed Rohwedder. Feb. 1991. I then conducted one of the first studies on the emerging digital divide, in a chapter published as "Internet and the Poor" in the book Public Access to the Internet. Kahin, Brian and James Keller, ed. MIT Press, July 1995. I went on to serve as principal investigator of USDA and Kellogg Foundation funded rural small business public/private partnership Public WebMarket program (1995 - 2000) promoting broadband access and e-commerce in under-served rural areas across the United States. I was also a principal investigator of an evaluation research project for US-DOC National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). I served as a team leader for a joint US-AID / Kingdom of Jordan 2003 foreign aid assignment to identify economic development opportunities enabled by a network of remote village technology centers operated by the Jordanian government and donor agencies. I went on to establish and direct a rural economic development council for a remote island county in the Pacific Northwest. There, I spearheaded a successful multi-agency fiber optic broadband public/private partnership and helped land public infrastructure investments, provide business retention and expansion services and advise on local comprehensive plans. More recently, I founded Soup Stone Media, a startup taking a maker approach to online instructional design and workforce development. Working prototypes and scalable production processes have been developed for online microlearning modules that blend with on-site tool instruction, by reinforcing key concepts, hand motion skills and tool safety requirements. I enjoy gardening and very much looking forward to swing dancing again!
